BOSTON—Last October, a performance at Fenway Park turned the locally known “Green Monster” into an instrument by using the stadium’s street-facing infrastructure as a drum. The performance featured nine percussionists harnessed to the wall, where they played six original songs interspersed with violin, vocal, and DJ performances. Part of ILLUMINUS, Boston’s annual nocturnal public art event, the work was created by artists Maria Finkelmeier, Ryan Edwards, and Sam Okerstrom-Lang, who animated the wall with light and color synchronized to drum triggers that prompted changes in projection mapping.
