New York (2013) Giuseppe Penone’s Ideas of Stone is a gravity-defying balancing act consisting of three 30-foot-tall bronze trees with giant, fruit-like stones suspended in their branches. The sculpture was commissioned by Madison Square Park Conservancy’s Mad. Sq. Art. and was first shown in Madison Square Park.

Giuseppe Penone is the subject of new book, Giuseppe Penone: The Hidden Life Within (London: Black Dog, 2013).

Ideas of Stone is one of many public art projects in Madison Square Park.
