Ottawa, Canada – Winterlude Pavilion, created by Adrian Bica and Dimitri Karopoulos, stood in Ottawa’s Confederation Park during the Winterlude Festival in 2015. Composed of steel and bamboo frames, string, and colored LED lights, the pavilion translated the geometry of a soccer ball with hexagonal and pentagonal facets to a larger scale. The LEDs were programmed to change colors.
Winterlude Pavilion was built with assistance from Ryerson University and exhibited there until early spring. After the work was disassembled, its materials were donated to SKETCH Toronto, an arts space for marginalized youth. There the materials were used to make a series of wind instruments.
