ARTIST SELECTION

Looking to bring meaningful and impactful public art to your community? Our team provides facilitation of equitable Artist Commissioning and Curating processes to help you realize your vision. We lead you through every step of the artist commissioning process—from defining your goals, to crafting an RFQ, to selecting the right artist. Additionally, we provide curatorial and programming expertise, and can help you develop exhibitions, events, and temporary installations that engage audiences and activate public spaces. Whether you’re launching a new public art initiative or enhancing an existing program, we bring the creativity, strategy, and project management skills to make it a success.

We emphasize access for artists of color, Indigenous artists, and groups that are traditionally excluded.

Project Spotlights

11th Street Bridge Park

Forecast was selected through a national competition to join internationally recognized firms OMA and OLIN along with engineers at Whitman, Requardt & Associates on the celebrated 11th Street Bridge Park, a project of Building Bridges Across the River, in Washington D.C. Our team will work to facilitate a selection process to commission artwork for the Park, with a focus on amplifying the stories, culture and heritage of neighboring Black residents.

Our team is honored to support transparent, equitable processes for public art reflective of its community. Forecast led the artist selection process for the 11th Street Bridge Park in Washington DC. In total, these five projects comprise $520,000 of investment in the local community.

Joining the mother-daughter duo selected for the park’s first major commission, Jackson Jarvis Studio, announced in spring, the selected artists who will create 4 more artworks tied to the park’s design principles and values are all local, all-women artist teams: Nicole Bourgea and Mickey Demas (team); Becky Borlan; Aliana Grace Bailey, Rhea Beckett & Syreeta C (team); and River East Design Center with Anna McCorvey (team).

Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board murals fostering Parks for All

In fall of 2021, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board adopted a new comprehensive plan, Parks for All, to guide the next 15 years of the park system. In celebration of the new vision, MPRB and Forecast hired nine artists to paint murals in the park system to represent the new goals in the physical park spaces that the plan represents. These nationally and internationally renowned artists all have ties to Minneapolis.

Now, they are painting murals at parks across the system, with mural concepts based on each of the new community-informed goals. The murals are being painted at different parks across the system so that the pages of the new policy will come to life in the parks, build awareness about the plan, and foster a culture of accountability to the new vision by shining a light on the new community informed goals.

Saint Paul Cultural District Downtown Mural Project

We’re collaborating with City of Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, the Department of Planning and Economic Development (PED), and the Saint Paul Downtown Alliance on seven mural commissions. A free workshop for muralists was held in summer 2023.

As part of the Cultural Destination Area work of the PED and Mayor Carter, Forecast facilitated a thoughtful and equitable selection process for seven new permanent murals in the downtown Cultural District, completed from fall 2023 through summer 2025. The Downtown Saint Paul Alliance identified and secured walls for the murals. These completed murals enliven downtown with the aim of bringing greater appreciation and awareness to the diversity of Saint Paul neighborhoods.

The seven represented Saint Paul cultural destination areas are: Little Mekong, Little Africa, Rondo, Shepard Davern, District del Sol, Near East Side, and North End.

Jen Lewin at LUX Doral

Forecast was hired to curate new permanent works of public art for LUX Doral, a large-scale dynamic art initiative in Doral, Florida. One of the first artists to complete and install works is international artist Jen Lewin. Trained as a dancer, musician, and architect, Lewin combines these disciplines in her visual work. The interactive sculptures she created, Andante and Helix, combine mathematical, musical, and dance principals to stimulate multiple senses, and they have been a major hit with visitors. An interactive beacon of light, Helix generates light effects as you move beneath it, while Andante is an interactive light and sound wave that you can compose with your motions.

I have now worked in public art for 27 years, and have worked with hundreds of clients, sites, and individuals, and I wholeheartedly recommend the team at Forecast. As an artist, many of my projects require more support than a single artist and their studio can successfully provide. I will always accept a commission when asked to work with Forecast, knowing that they employ caring staff members who are well versed in every area of public art. The Forecast team know how to facilitate artistic projects that not only faithfully represent the artist’s and client’s visions, but also bring them together—fostering a collaborative working relationship that inevitably leads to the best work possible.
