Queer Textile Theory Reading Group Research & Preparation

This spring, Soph is hosting a Queer Textile Theory Reading Group where they and other artists will meet once a week to discuss readings. Each artist will then create a piece of work reacting to this experience, culminating as a group show at Fresh Eye Gallery in June 2023. Funding will support purchasing books and afford them to take time off to prepare a curriculum to best facilitate this program.

Sophia Munic is a textile artist that uses traditional sewing, quilting and soft sculpture techniques to recontextualize themes of comfort, memory, and gender. They use found fabrics to investigate my relationship to desire and intimacy. Sophia teaches occasional workshops at The Textile Center, Curiosity Studio, and Fresh Eye Arts. Sophia hosts an interactive performance, How To Move With Wonder which will be on the ice for a second time at Art Shanty this year. Sophia has exhibited work at the Waiting Room Gallery in Minneapolis and will be an Artist in Residence with Lanesboro Arts this summer.
